IBM - Smarter Cities - Rio

Back to Our Films

IBM came to us with a brief to document stories of new innovations in developing markets. The first example of this was the Rio operations Center in Brazil. Creative Director, Jeff Curry, from Ogilvy and Silverfish put the whole story and brief together plus sourced contributors and locations - including access to a Flamengo match, to a Favela and to an international surfing competition. Our purpose was to show how the work of IBM is relevant to the citizens of developing countries and making a difference to the life of the city. The film was shot over 4 days using a mixture of full HD, Panasonic P2, Canon 5D and Go-pro cameras plus a gyroscope from a helicopter directed by us. The film was shot in both English and Portuguese simultaneously and two language versions of the film have been produced - in English with Portuguese subtitles and in Portuguese with English subtitles. it is a simple documentary style but shot in an imaginative heightened style that reflects the diversity and dynamism of Rio as a city. DOP was award winning cinematographer Kate Reid, who used timelapse, mirrored shots, mounted go pro and handheld 5d to create the look. The film has been used on the web and at events and has already proved very successful in showing how IBM make a difference to the people and countries of the developing world.
